In this 3D animated film, we are introduced to the planet Baarb home to the legendary national hero, Scorch Supernova (Brendan Fraser). Scorch is known for his daring rescues, and he is always aided by his nerdy brother Gary (Rob Corddry), the head of mission control at BASA. When Scorch is informed of an SOS by the Chief of BASA, Lena (Jessica Alba), he rushes off to aid the call avoiding his brother’s warnings. This leads to Scorch being lured into a trap by the evil Shanker (James Gandolfini).
With Scorch in trouble, it is now up to scrawny Gary to save the day. He is faced with more than saving his brother as the interplanetary risks come to a head. He must also save his wife (Sarah Jessica Parker), his planet, and his adventurous son, Kip.
Escape from Planet Earth
This film comes from Rainmaker Entertainment and is being produced by the Weinstein Company. It is the first movie to be directed by Callan Brunker, but he has worked in other departments on animated films such as Despicable Me, Horton Hears a Who, and 9. He also helped to co-write the script along with Tony Leech (Hoodwinked!), Cory Edwards (Hoodwinked!), and Bob Barlen.
This will be the only animated movie opening in February 2013 unless scheduling changes. It is probably the only family centered movie that will be released also. It will open the same weekend as supernatural thriller Beautiful Creatures, the fifth Die Hard film - A Good Day to Die Hard, and love movie Safe Haven.
